That will do

P. ARUMUGASAMY
Arrupukotai

A brief introduction of myself may be needed for the readers, before I narrate some happenings in my life. I have spared little time to think of God. In fact I used to think why people are spending a lot of time and money for worshipping God. Only occasionally, say once a year, I visit temples, that too under compulsion from my family members. As an average human, I used to think that I should not do any harm to any body, even if I could not help others.

I remember it was in August 1987, when I was chatting with my colleagues in our college, Rajan was telling us about his meeting with Swamiji. Rajan told me that Swamiji had asked him,"Who is your Professor?" Rajan replied "The name of our Professor is Arumugasamy, Swamiji". Hearing this, Swamiji repeatedly pronounced that name. At this statement of Rajan I simply nodded my head and made no reply. Again in June 1992 another colleague of mine came to me saying " I had the privilege of spending two hours with Swamiji yesterday. At that time Swamiji asked me " How is your Principal? " Why don't you meet Swamiji once, sir?". I replied "O.K. I will meet him once".

It was in the month of September 1992, I had an inner urge to meet Bhagavan. I called my colleague Rajan and said "We are going to meet Bhagavan this Saturday". Both of us reached Tiruvannamalai on Saturday, 26th September 1992. On entering into a lodge there, we found Rajan's elder sister staying there. I could see her forearm swollen and she explained she had a fracture in her right wrist six months ago and she had a surgical operation too. Still she is having pain and somehow she has managed to prepare some chappatis for Bhagavan.

Rajan and I reached the abode of Bhagavan at 10.00 A.M. I was keenly observing what was going on around me. A three year old girl child was seated near Bhagavan. "HE" was gently rowing her bangles, with smile in his lips and giving a feathery gentle touch to her forearm. I could not understand the significance of this act at that time. At 11.00 A.M. Bhagavan called us both, and said, "Both of you go to the Temple now". As we stood up, Bhagavan gave me two red roses. I could not understand why He gave two roses particularly to me. Now Bhagavan asked "Jayarama is there any festival in the Temple today?" Jayaraman replied, "They are celebrating Arunagirinathar's Birthday today. In the evening they have a light and sound show of Arunagirinathar's life". Looking at me Bhagavan exclaimed "Oh! Today is Arunagirinathar's Birthday!". Before we left, when I knelt at the feet of Bhagavan, He gently touched my forehead with His fingers.

We reached the temple and after seeing all the deities there, we were about to enter the sanctum sanctorum. Surprisingly enough we could not go near the Linga and we could see only dense smoke with a curtain like thing in front of the Mulasthanam. Rajan told me "Let us wait for some time and see the Lord". I said "We can go back now and we will see later."

At 4.00 PM, we went to the residence of Bhagavan and found many people sitting inside. When we made pranams, Rajan asked Bhagavan whether we can go back home today. Bhagavan simply said, "Please Wait". Surprisingly enough, Bhagavan blessed me this time also with two roses. We were standing in front of Bhagavan's residence till 6.45 PM, when somebody from inside asked us to come at 10.00 AM on the next morning.

When we returned to the lodge, I was surprised to see Rajan's elder sister with the swellings in her forearm completely disappeared. She was swaying her hands with greater speed and told me with joy "Pain has gone"! As Bhagavan rotated the bangles of the child, her pain completely disappeared. She further narrated that she got pain only because during surgical operation they misplaced one of the bones in her wrist. I was surprised to see the incredible events that had occurred.

After having our supper, we were walking along the road, when the son of Perumalsamy came and told Rajan, "Your sister is waiting for you at the Temple to witness the light and sound show depicting the life of Arunagirinathar". When we reached the Temple we could see several thousands of people there to witness the show. Like Arunagirinathar did, one man was found climbing up the Tower, at the same time the Idol of Lord Muruga was carried out of the shrine to rescue him. At this juncture we entered the Mulasthanam. I felt that some force was driving me there. I was shocked and surprised at the sight of Lord Siva inside the Mulasthanam. Words cannot express that scene. Now I could see in splendid form the Idol which was not clearly visible in the morning. I could see the Idol short and stumpy dark black in colour with snow white marbles in the background. The Idol was seen with a golden five headed 'Naga' at the top. I could even clearly see the only two "millingtonia flowers" on the statue. I could see brightness everywhere, and I could even hear the music of gongs with the chanting of Vedic mantras. At that moment I felt that something unimaginable has occurred in my life. In short, I had a feeling that I was carried very near to God. Even then I could not understand the real significance of that, since I was asking myself, "How has this happened to me?" Next morning when we prostrated ourselves before Bhagavan, He gave me two roses again. With the blessings of the Father we returned to Aruppukottai.

After a lapse of six months, I decided to go to Tiruvannamalai again. This time I went alone, on 4th April 1993. Before having Darshan of Bhagavan, out of curiosity I went to the Temple in the morning to see the Idol of "Lord Siva". Now I could see the statue long and slender, pale grey in colour, having a different form. My mind once again reverberated, "Why Lord Siva appeared to me in another form the other day? " With this question baffling my mind, I entered the residence of Bhagavan at 9.30 a.m. Only two ladies were seated there. Bhagavan asked me to sit there. They were chanting Bhagavan's nama continuously. I also joined them. Suddenly Bhagavan went inside and brought a book. He turned one of the pages and asked one of the ladies to read a particular passage. With all devotion she started reading the passage, which is a reprint of an article once published in "Times" magazine.

The very first sentence read, " The appearance of the Image of God in another form is known as Deiva Anugraham." Hearing this I became alert keenly listening to what she was reading. She started reading the next sentence, " Only Lord Siva can give Deiva Anugraham since He appears in many forms. With a smile Bhagavan said "Oh! Here Lord Siva is very near to us. Let us see whether he gives Deiva Anugraham; Read the next sentence". She read, "Ordinary man can get Deiva Anugraham by two different ways.

1. When he is in between two meditators, the concentric waves of meditation will encircle him and will see Lord Siva in a different form. It happened to a 14 year old boy in Punjab.
2. Another way is to have a "Divine Touch". The magnetic power of the touch will arouse the Godliness in him and he will visualise the Image of God in another form" ............ "Bhagavan asked her to stop with this.

Overwhelmed with surprise, I could not even utter a single word. At the same time Bhagavan was talking to the people sitting inside as if nothing had happened. After sometime Bhagavan called me by name and gave some fruits. With hesitation, I asked, "My relatives and family members are very eager to have Darshan of Bhagavan. May I bring them here one day ?" Gently patting on my shoulder Bhagavan said "Why do you want to bring everybody here. You have seen the things here. That will do."
