Diverses sont les voies par lesquelles les dévots et les disciples sont attirés par le Guru. Le cas du lieutenant-colonel à la retraite Shashikant est unique, dans le sens où sa rencontre avec Bhagavan Yogi Ramsuratkumar a eu lieu selon une prédiction enregistrée dans l'Agastya Naadi. Shri Shashikant, officier de l'Armée de l'Air Indienne, était alors à Chennai. Son séjour là-bas facilitait la recherche sur son sujet favori : "Naadi", un genre d'astrologie, du fait qu'il y a beaucoup de centres de lecture Naadi dans et autour de la ville. Lors des rencontres préliminaires avec les lecteurs Naadi, particulièrement au Vaidhîswaran koil, il se fit lire les quelques premiers chapitres de l'Agastya Naadi. Ils contenaient une information générale impressionnante sur sa destinée.

Plus tard, en mai 1994, il se sentit un jour poussé à se faire lire le 9ème chapitre de l'Agastya Naadi. Les prédictions étaient celles-ci : "Cette prédiction concerne un fils pieux… Le nom est Shashikant, père Janardhan, mère Mangala, première femme Chaya, l'épouse existante est Alka… Vous êtes un fonctionnaire du gouvernement qui travaillez au Département de la Défense… A cause des instructions qui vous ont été données par vos mentors et à cause de leurs bénédictions, votre progrès spiritual sera rapide. Ce guide spirituel est à Tiruvannamalai et vous le rencontrerez un jour de nouvelle lune. De nombreux autres dévots y seront aussi présents… Il est appelé d'après Rama… Ses bénédictions vous aideront à acquérir la connaissance spirituelle. (De fait, il y a une personne nommée Ramsuratkumar à Tiruvannamalai qui est aussi connue comme celui qui a un éventail de feuille de palmier à la main, c.à.d. Visiri Sami ou 'Fan Baba' ajouta le lecteur Naadi.)"

Shri Shashikant se vit bientôt confirmer l'existence d'un sâdhu, connu comme Yogi Ramsuratkumar, à Tiruvannamalai. Par la suite et jour après jour, son impatience de le rencontrer grandit. Enfin, le 26 mai 1994, il arriva à Tiruvannamalai après avoir passé la nuit précédente à l'Ashram de Sri Aurobindo à Pondicherry. Quand il arriva à l'Ashram de Bhagavan, le darshan du matin était terminé et le Yogi était parti. Il eut le Prasadam (déjeuner) et attendit le Darshan de l'après-midi. A 16 h Bhagavan entra dans la salle, accompagné par les Sœurs de Sudama. Il y avait alors quelques soixante dévots qui s'étaient assemblés là. Swami et les Soeurs de Sudama s'assirent sur une estrade légèrement surélevée en faisant face aux dévots. A la gauche de Swami, les dévots femmes étaient assises sur le sol en rangs et les hommes à Sa droite. Pendant pas mal de temps, des bhajans et le chant de Son nom se poursuivirent.

Swami descendit tout à coup et commença à faire des allers et venues dans l'espace qui divisait les femmes et les hommes. Shri Shashikant était assis au premier rang du côté des hommes, l'esprit entièrement occupé par la prédiction Nadi sur le Guru et par l'attente d'un signe de sa confirmation. Entre-temps le Maître était de nouveau descendu et, alors qu'Il passait près de lui, Shri Shashikant regarda Ses pieds. A ce moment-là, à son grand étonnement, il entendit le Sâdhu dire en hindi : "Thera kam ho jageya" (Votre objectif sera atteint). Il regarda autour de lui et il ne vit aucune personne qui parlât hindi à part lui, et cette déclaration n'était à l'évidence adressée à aucune personne qui se trouvait là ou en réponse à une question ou à une requête. Aussi sentit-il qu'elle était immanquablement pour lui, et il la prit comme une confirmation certaine de la prédiction du Naadi. Les maîtres spirituels ne sont-ils pas connus pour être cryptiques et peu communicatifs ? Shri Oak dit que les paroles de bénédiction du Maître, exprimées en hindi, sont encore fonctionnelles et qu'il se les rappelle à chaque fois qu'une heureuse tournure d'évènements a lieu dans sa vie. Après avoir passé plus de temps en présence du Yogi, il s'inclina devant le Maître et partit pour Chennai avec des sentiments mitigés.

Par la suite, en août, il sentit de nouveau une forte impulsion pour aller rendre visite au mystique. Après avoir terminé ses achats à Pondicherry et y avoir passé la nuit, Shri Shashikant et sa femme Alka arrivèrent à l'Ashram de Bhagavan le 7 août 1994. A 10 heures du matin, le Yogi et les Sœurs de Sudama arrivèrent. Comme d'habitude le Maître prit Sa place sur l'estrade surélevée et les sœurs de Sudama commencèrent à chanter les chants dévotionnels favoris du Maître. Il était interdit aux dévots de toucher les pieds de Bhagavan ou de s'approcher de Lui et de lui raconter leurs histoires de malheur. Aussi, voulant absolument communiquer avec le Maître, Shri Oak griffonna sur un morceau de papier : "Je suis Shashikant Oak. Selon l'Agastya Naadi, vous êtes mon guide spirituel. Aussi je suis venu ici pour vous voir. J'attends vos conseils. Ayez la bonté de m'accorder votre bénédiction." Il mit le mot dans une enveloppe et se tint prêt à la remettre au Yogi. Mr Mani, le toujours vigilant membre du Conseil d'Administration s'avança, saisit l'enveloppe et cria : "Pourquoi venir si près ? Est-ce conforme à votre discipline de l'Armée de l'Air ?" Smt. Alka devint nerveuse. Mr Mani réalisa que le mot était en Hindi et il le tendit au Maître qui regardait tout l'échange, peut-être en dissimulant Son amusement. Les sœurs de Sudama continuaient de chanter. Entre-temps Bhagavan lut la note de Shri Oak. Un peu plus tard, Il se leva et commença à marcher entre les rangs des dévots. Après quelques allées et venues, le Maître vint près de Shri Shashikant, s'assit, prit ses mains dans les Siennes et demanda : "De quel Etat êtes-vous ?" Shri Shashikant répondit d'une voix tremblante : 'Maharashtra'. Pour mettre son heureuse excitation dans ses mots : "Mon corps frissonnait. Mes yeux commençaient à se mouiller. Je sentais que tout mon corps était dynamisé." Bhagavan tint sa main pendant longtemps, puis il la quitta et retourna à sa place. Comme si la bénédiction qu'il avait donnée n'était pas suffisante, l'illuminé appela Sri Oak, lui demanda de s'asseoir près de Lui sur le sol et dit : "Ce mendiant désire que vous restiez pour le Darshan du soir." Puis il lui donna un exemplaire des poèmes de Lee Lozowick en guise de Prasad. Swami le regarda alors doit dans les yeux en se marmonnant quelque chose à Lui-même. Il semblait être d'une humeur étrange. Les autres dévots ont du se demander pourquoi il était choisi pour une bénédiction spéciale. A la fin de cette abondance spirituelle, Shri Oak s'inclina, toucha les saints pieds du Guru et prit congé. Le couple pieux prit aussi par au repas après le darshan et il quitta l'Ashram avec les bénédictions de Bhagavan. Alors que par formalité ils prenaient congé de Mr Mani, il dit : "Bien entendu, le Yogi vous a donné Ses bénédictions. Vous êtes libres de lui rendre visite quand vous le souhaitez."

Ils arrivèrent chez eux à minuit. Shri Shashikant, comme pour donner une conclusion théâtrale à tout l'épisode, tendit à Alka la lecture du 9ème chapitre de l'Agastya Naadi, et il attira son attention particulière sur la prédiction selon laquelle, accompagné par quelqu'un un jour de nouvelle lune, il rencontrerait un saint homme et serait béni. Un coup d'œil au calendrier mit la garniture sur leur expérience édifiante avec le saint homme, car ils réalisèrent que c'était un jour de nouvelle lune !

En vérité un exemple étonnant de la manière dont une rencontre avec le grand Maître vit le jour, pleinement selon une prédiction enregistrée il y a des siècles ! Ne pouvons-nous pas tirer une conclusion raisonnable, à la lumière de l'expérience de Sri Oak, selon laquelle la rencontre d'un Guru n'est pas seulement un évènement accidentel ? L'importante transformation qu'ont connu les dévots après avoir rencontré Bhagavan le confirmera amplement.

Various are the ways in which devotees and disciples are drawn towards the Guru. The case of Retired Wing Commander Shashikant is unique in the sense that his meeting with Bhagavan Yogi Ramsuratkumar took place exactly according to a prediction recorded in the Agastya Naadi. Shri Shashikant, an officer of the Indian Air Force was then stationed in Chennai. The stay there facilitate the research on his pet subject, "Naadi", a type of astrology, as there are a number of Naadi reading centres in and around the city. During the preliminary encounters with the Naadi readers, especially in Vaidheeswaran koil, he got the first few chapters of Agastya Naadi read. It contained impressive general information about his destiny.

Later, in May 1994, one day he felt impelled to get the 9th chapter of Agastya Naadi read. The predictions went on like this: "This prediction is concerning a pious son… The name is Shashikant, father Janardhan, mother Mangala, first wife Chaya, the existing wife is Alka… You are a government servant working in the Defense Department… Because of directions given to you by your mentors and their blessings, your spiritual progress will be speedy. That spiritual guide is stationed in Tiruvannamalai and you will meet him on a new moon day. A number of other devotees too will be present there… He is named after Rama… His blessings will help you acquire spiritual knowledge. (There is indeed a person named Ramsuratkumar in Tiruvannamalai who is also known as the one with a palm-leaf fan in his hand i.e. Visiri Swami of 'Fan Baba' added the Naadi reader.)"

Shri Shashikant soon got confirmed the existence of a sadhu, known as Yogi Ramsuratkumar, in Tiruvannamalai. Thereafter, day by day, his eagerness to see Him increased. At last on the 26th May 1994, he reached Tiruvannamalai, after spending the previous night (Buddha Purnima) at Sri Aurobndo Ashram, Pondicherry. By the time he reached Bhagavan's Ashram, the morning Darshan was over and the Yogi had left. He had Prasadam (lunch) and waited for the evening Darshan. At 4 P.M., Bhagavan entered the hall, accompanied by the Sudama Sisters. By then about sixty other devotees had gathered there. Swami and the Sudama sisters seated themselves on a slightly raised platform facing the devotees. To Swami's left, lady devotees were seated on the floor in rows and to His right, men. For quite some time, Bhajans and chanting of His name continued.

All of a sudden, Swami got down and started walking up and down the dividing space between the lady and men devotees. Shri Shashikant was sitting in the front row on the men's side, with his mind fully occupied with the Naadi prediction about the Guru and expectation of some sign of its confirmation. In the meanwhile, the Master came down again and as He walked past him, Shri Shashikant looked at His feet. At that moment, much to his puzzlement, he heard the Sadhu say in Hindi, "Thera kam ho jageya" (Your objective will be achieved). He looked around and found no Hindi speaking person there except himself, and this statement was obviously not addressed to anyone present there, or in response to any query or request. Therefore, he naturally felt it was unmistakably meant for him, and took it as a sure confirmation of the prediction in the Naadi. Aren't the spiritual masters known for being cryptic and reticent! Shri Oak says that the benedictory words of the Master, uttered in Hindi, are still functional, and he is reminded of them, every time a happy turn of events takes place in his life. After spending some more time in the Yogi's presence, he bowed to the Master and left for Chennai with mixed feelings.

Thereafter, in August, he again felt a strong urge to visit the mystic. After finishing shopping in Pondicherry and spending the night there, Shri Shashikant and his wife Alka reached Bhagavan's Ashram on 7th August 1994. At 10 A.M. the Yogi and the Sudama Sisters arrived. As usual, the Master occupied His seat on the raised platform and the Sudama sisters began singing the favourite devotional songs of the Master. The devotees were forbidden to touch Bhagavan's feet or go near Him and narrate their tales of woe. So, keen on communicating with the Master, Shri Oak scribbled in Hindi, on a piece of paper, "I am Shashikant Oak. According to the Agastya Naadi, you are my spiritual guide. So I have come here to see you. I await your guidance. Kindly give me your blessing." He put the note into an envelope and got ready to deliver it to the Yogi. Mr Mani, the ever-vigilant Trust member stepped forward, seized the envelope and shouted, "Why should you come so close? Does this conform to your Air Force discipline?" Smt. Alka became nervous. Mr Mani realized that the note was in Hindi and handed it to the Master, who was watching the whole transaction, perhaps concealing His amusement. The Sudama sisters continued to sing. Bhagavan, in the meanwhile, appeared to read Shri Oak's note. A little later, He rose and started pacing between the rows of devotes. After a few rounds of walking up and down, the Master came close to Sri Shashikant, sat down, took his hands in His and asked, "Which State are you from?" Shri Shashikant replied in a trembling voice, 'Maharashtra'. To put his blissful excitement in his own words, "My body shivered. My eyes started moistening. I felt my whole body was energized." Bhagavan held his hand for quite some time, then left it and went back to his seat. As if the blessing He gave as not sufficient, the enlightened one beckoned Shri Oak to Hi, asked him to sit near Him on the floor and said, "This beggar desires that you stay on for the evening Darshan." Then He picked up a copy of Lee Lozowick's poems to him by way of Prasad. Swami then looked straight into his eyes, muttering something to Himself. He appeared to be in a strange mood. The other devotees must have been wondering why he as being singled out for special blessing. At the end of this spiritual bonanza, Shri Oak bowed, touched the holy feet of the Guru and took leave. The devout couple attended the post-lunch Darshan also and left the Ashram with the blessings of Bhagavan. As they were formally taking leave of Mr Mani, he said, "Of course, the Yogi has given you His blessings. You are welcome to call on him any time you wish."

They reached home at 12 midnight. Shri Shashikant, as if to give a dramatic conclusion to the whole episode, handed to Alka the reading of the 9th chapter of Agastya Naadi, and drew her attention particularly to the prediction that, accompanied by somebody on new moon day, he would meet a holy man and be blessed. A look at the calendar proved the topping on their edifying experience with the holy man, for they realized it was a new moon day!

Indeed, n amazing instance of how a meeting with the great Master unfolded, fully according to a prediction recorded centuries ago! Can't we draw a reasonable conclusion, in the light of Shri Oak experience, that meeting a Guru is not just a casual event? The momentous transformation that has come over most of the devotees after meeting Bhagavan will amply bear this out.
