The most memorable moment in my life

Dr. K. Rukmani
Ancien Vice-Chancelier de l'Université Alagappa, Karaikudi
Former Vice-Chancellor Alagappa University Karaikudi

Yogi Ramsuratkumar Ji, also known as 'Visiri Swami', has had a profound influence in my life. I was lucky enough to have my first darshan of him in 1993. He was staying in his humble hut at Tiruvannamalai with a mixed congregation of people around him. They were eager to have a glimpse of him and make offerings of bananas and other fruits to him. He used to throw at them fruits which were deftly caught as cricket balls by children and adults.

I heard about the great saint and his unusual ways of blessing people. I went to the saint along with a colleague of mine and my eldest son. His wife, a doctor, was expecting a child, and there was no end to her vomiting and sickness. She was in a critical condition. Swami Ji stared at us and waved his fan. With a merciful smile, He blessed me and the distraught husband saying that His father, the great God would not fail to save the doctor and her child in the womb, as the doctor had saved so many lives and infants. Further, he comforted us by saying, "My Father will shower on you and your dear and near ones his blessings for good health and prosperity. Go with great faith and light hearts." The prophecy of the saint came true, since my daughter-in-law had a safe delivery, much to the astonishment and misdiagnosis of eminent doctors. Due to His bountiful mercy, I am blessed with a healthy and intelligent grand-daughter, a welcome addition to an all-male household. Until this day His words of blessing and comfort keep ringing in my ears. I salute the great saint in my daily prayers.

What struck me most was his piercing eyes. With a twinkle in his eyes, he told me that he knew about my visit to him. At that time, Ma Devaki was due to get her pension benefits from Salem Sarada College. Ma Devaki, after taking voluntary retirement from her teaching post at Sri Sarada College was due to get her pension benefits at this time. To avail the pension benefits a lot of paperwork needed to be done requiring Ma Devaki's personal presence and attention. However, she was completely unwilling to leave Swami Ji even for a short while to attend to this work. Swami Ji in his ever merciful grace saw that the work was completed by itself.

Swami Ji surprised Devaki in front of all of us by declaring that the officer would be there, by God's directions to help her. And, Dr Rukmani, by God's directions, came to help her. Yogi Ramsuratkumar said, "Dr Rukmani has come to help you get your benefits. Ma Devaki need not even lift a little finger of hers in this regard." Swami Ji then requested me to do the needful.

I was very happy to have the privilege of fulfilling Swami Ji's wishes. Soon after my return to Chennai, I saw to it that Mataji's pension, gratuity, etc., were sanctioned to her immediately. In my humble way, I was of service to the God-man. This filled my heart and soul with immense joy.

Later on, I was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Alagappa University, Karaikudi. The saint's prophecy and his blessings had come true and dragged me unawares to Tiruvannamalai once again. By then, Swami Ji's ashram had transformed into an immense structure, as grand and magnificent as the great man himself. I had good darshan and sought his blessings to join as Vice-Chancellor. After my retirement also I used to frequently visit the ashram, which is now under the able care of Justice Arunachalam, and assisted by Ma Devaki and Ma Vijayalakshmi. I am sure the ashram, the abode of the saintly soul, will be a beacon of light to mankind in search of peace.
