Matin.-

Le temps est arrivé de partir pour les fêtes du Jayanti à l'ashram. Quand nous nous 'pointons' avec Rajmohan, il y a une véritable queue de sadhus qui semblent en revenir. Nous pensons donc être en en retard.

Le nouveau mandir va être inauguré avec le Jayanti de Yogiji. De chaque côté de l'entrée se tiennent les hommes à gauche et les femmes à droite. ...La voiture de Yogiji arrive, avec un ou deux musiciens devant qui marchent en reculant.

Yogiji descend en face du darshan mandir et fait les derniers mètres après, tout sourire. En entrant dans le hall, un ornement qui pendait tombe sur sa tête, mais le poids étant presque nul, cela ne le heurte pas. Puis, avant que les personnes ne soient admises à rentrer, il va visiter la librairie et le nouveau bureau. Enfin il s'installe et hommes et femmes sont appelés à rentrer. Je suis dans les rangs de tête et j'ai donné la vidéo à Rajmohan qui, comme il s'occupe aussi de l'ordre, aura toute latitude pour filmer. Je lui ai dit de ne pas hésiter à filmer. Lorsque tout le monde est installé (il reste des gens dehors car malgré sa taille, le mandir ne peut contenir tout le monde), John va au micro et entonne le gurunama, qui est repris par tout le monde avec une foi extraordinaire. C'est une véritable ovation. Yogiji parcourt l'allée centrale et, transversalement devant le premier rang sous cette ovation qui va durer 40 minutes, minimum. Et encore ne cesse-t-elle que parce qu'il va s'asseoir ! C'est extraordinaire, fantastique, l'ovation à l'Enfant-Dieu, au Dieu-mendiant !

Et je me rappelle le matin où Yogiji avait dit : " Ce sera un grand Jayanti ! ". Mani me dira qu'il était prévu que Yogiji bénisse l'assistance pendant 2 minutes, et qu'après aient lieu les discours, et ensuite les spectacles de danse. Yogiji dira : " Mani a demandé à ce mendiant de les bénir pendant 2 minutes. Il les a béni pendant 40 minutes ! ". Tant et si bien qu'il n'y a pas de place pour tous les discours. C'est Ma Devaki qui parle en premier, en tamil. Mais je sais qu'elle dira encore : " Ceci n'est pas un ashram, c'est un temple, un lieu spirituel qui est appelé à rayonner. " D'où aussi le mur qu'il y aura tout autour, de 18 pieds de haut, etc... Puis il y aura le chant d'Arunachala Shiva par Ma Devaki, repris par tout le monde. Puis il y aura un discours d'un juge, de Mani, quelques mots de Lee Lozowick et encore un ou deux. Le programme est chamboulé, comme je l'apprendrai après. Puis il y aura des spectacles de danse, dont un symbolisant l'unité des hommes au-delà des barrières de races et de religions. Il y aura aussi une toute petite fille qui dansera Krishna, puis une autre d'une grâce infinie et Yogiji n'arrêtera pas de sourire, comme un enfant !

A la sortie tout le monde se rend vers la nouvelle cuisine qui est terminée et attend là. Je m'y rends aussi, rentre dans la " salle à manger " qui peut accueillir 350 personnes à la fois. La toiture n'est pas encore faite mais des tentures ont été placées. Je vais filmer la cuisine, reviens et vais m'installer dans le fond. C'est alors que je vois Yogiji entrer, suivi par Ma Devaki et les soeurs de Sudama. Mani se précipite vers Yogiji qui lui donne la main. Comme un fait exprès, il vient s'installer dans le coin où je me trouve. Je suis juste derrière lui, à deux places de décalage. Je le regarde. Un moment il se retourne et me vois. Je fais l'anjali. Il me sourit et fait l'anjali ! Les gens rentrent et tout le monde commence à manger. Je passe la caméra à Narayanan qui est justement là puisqu'il est photographe, avec son frère qui tient sa camera " officielle ", et Narayanan va monter sur une chaise en face de Yogiji et pourra notamment le prendre alors qu'il éclate de rire !

Après-midi.-

Nous arrivons à l'ashram presque en même temps que Yogiji. Cet après-midi il y a d'autres programmes. Le programme principal est la fin du Ramayana par l'homme à la voix éraillée. Lorsque je le vois s'installer et mettre sa montre devant lui, je signale à mon voisin américain Tom (qui va partir à Delhi pour la Conférence Mondiale d'Archéologie) qu'il y en a au moins pour une heure et qu'il s'agit de la fin du récit du Ramayana. C'est en tamil et nous ne comprenons rien. C'est très long. Un moment on dirait que Yogi s'endort. Ma Devaki semble aussi être fatiguée par la longueur et commence à regarder vers le conférencier. Un moment elle lui fera même signe qu'il faudrait peut-être songer à terminer. Quoiqu'il en soit, à la fin Yogiji se lèvera quand même pour l'honorer en lui mettant un châle sur les épaules.

Après l'arti, nous revenons au Brindavan Udipi, dans la chambre du bas où se trouve Suresh et sa femme, CVR et sa femme et Ramesh que je revois pour la première fois depuis l'année dernière. Lui et sa femme sont très fatigués. Ils sont là avec leurs deux petites filles qui avaient chanté le Ramnam l'année dernière à Madras et que j'avais filmées. Ils sont arrivés le matin et repartent ce soir-même par le bus à Madras avec C.V.R. Seul Suresh va rester. Nous discutons et rions et prenons quelques images en vidéo.

Puis ils partent... Le soir nous sommes tous les deux Suresh. Nous nous endormons tard car nous ne faisons que parler de Yogiji.

Morning.-

Time has come to go to the Ashram for the Jayanti celebration. When Rajmohan and me arrive, there is a long queue of sadhus ; it seems that they are coming back from there. Therefore we think that we are late.

The new mandir will be inaugurated with Yogiji's Jayanti. On each side of the entrance, men stand on the left and women on the right. Yogiji's car arri es, with one or two musicians in front of the car, walking backwards.

Yogiji gets down from the car in front of the darshan mandir et walks for the last meters, all smile. While entering the hall, some hanging ornament falls on His head, but as its weight is almost nothing, it does not hurt Him. Then, before the permission is given to the people to enter, He goes and visits the library and the new office. At the end, He takes His seat and men and women are called inside. I am in the first rows and i have given the video to Rajmohan who, as he is also responsible for the good order, will have full discretion to take pictures. I told him : "don't hesitate to film". When all the crowd is seated (many people stay outside; in spite of its size, the mandir cannot countain everybody) John goes to the mike and begins to chant the Gurunama, which is taken up by everybody with an extraordinary faith. It is a tremendous ovation. Yogiji travels through the central path and transversaly before the first row under this ovation that will last for 40 minutes! And if it ends, it is because He goes to His seat! It is extraordinary, fantastic, the ovation to the God-Child, to the God-beggar!

And this reminds me when Yogiji said in the morning : "It will be a great Jayanti!". Mani will tell me later that what was planned was that Yogiji blesses the audience during 2 minutes,after what speechs would have begun, and then the dances. Yogji will say: "Mani asked this beggar to bless them for 2 minutes. He blessed them for 40 minutes!" So much so that there is no place for all the speeches. Ma Devaki speaks first, in tamil. But i know that she will say also : "This is not an ashram, this is a temple, a spiritual place that is destined to radiate." Hence, also, the wall that will be built all around, 18 feet high, etc... Then Ma Devaki will chant Arunachala, taken up by everybody. Then a judge will give a speech, then Mani, some words from Lee Lozowick, and then again one or two persons. The program is "messed up", as i will learn afterwards. Then, we will see dances, among which one symbolizes the unity of men beyond the barriers of races and religions. A very little girl will dance as Krishna, then another one of an infinite grace, and Yogiji will never stop to smile, like a child !

When going out, everybody goes to the new kitchen that is finished and waits there. I go there too, enter the "dining room" that may receive 350 persons at the same time. The roof is not finised yet, but curtains have been put. I go and film the kitchen, come back and go at the end. It is then that i see Yogiji entering, followed by Ma Devaki and Sudama sisters. Mani rushes to Yogiji who holds his hand. and to seatJe vais filmer la cuisine, reviens et vais m'installer dans le fond. C'est alors que je vois Yogiji entrer, suivi par Ma Devaki et les soeurs de Sudama. Mani se précipite vers Yogiji qui lui donne la main. As on purpose, He comes to seat in the corner where i'm standing. I am just behind Him, after two seats. I look at Him. He turns His head and sees me. I do anjali. He smiles and does the same! People come in and everybody begins to eat. I give the video camera to Narayanan who is there as a photographer with his brother who holds the "official camera", and Narayanan jumps on a chair facing Yogiji and is able to shoot at Him when He bursts in laughter.

Afternoon.-

We arrive at the Ashram almost at the same time as Yogiji. This afternoon, other programs are planned. The main program is the end of the Ramayana by the man who has a hoarse voice. When i see that he install himself and puts his watch in front of him, i point out to my American neighbour Tom (who will depart for the World Conference of Archeology) that the time this will take will be, at least, one hour, knowing that it is the end of the narration of the Ramayana. It is in Tamil and we understand nothing. It is very long. At a time, it seems that Yogiji falls into sleep. Ma Devaki also seems to be tired of the length of the speech and begins to look at the lecturer. At a time she will make a sign that it would be good to think of ending... Whatever, at the end, Yogiji will get up to honor him by putting a shawl on his shoulders.

After the arti, we come back to the Brindavan Udipi, in the bedroom where Suresh and his wife, CVR and his wife and Ramesh are stayingd It is the first time i see Ramesh since last year. He and his wife are very tired. They are there with their two little girls who chanted the Ramnam last year in Madras. They arrived this morning and they go back this evening by the Madras bus with CVR. Only Suresh will stay. We speak and laugh and take some video images.

Then they leave... At night we are there, Suresh and i. We go to bed very late as we don't stop to speak of Yogiji.
