My divine navigator

P.V. KARUNAKARAN

Bhagavan,
You spotted me one day
Groping for a way
Like myriads of others
In life's long journey.

In ecstasy I was,
To be triple - fed -
Of body, mind and soul -
With subtle food rare.

Fondling touch motherly,
And even pampering,
Foolish me knew not,
Were tools of discipline.

I fell a slave to love,
To care and warmth of Grace,
And complacently trekked on,
Goaded by your gaze.

Once a milometer
You blessed me with -
A sandal Japarnala -
For use in a vehicle.

Years five rolled by,
And a vehicle you did grant -
The Nama for Japa -
For onward journey quick.

Smooth was the ride,
With you in the rear,
The divine navigator,
To inspire me.

Through the golden arches
Of hope raised by you,
Towards the source of being
We glided on together.

But far wasn't the day,
When a jolt and a jerk
Wobbled the joumey,
Sinking me in gloom.

I look behind in woe
And find you missing !
Out on the road
You'd thrown your body !

The journey from the shock
Resumes reluctantly
Through the golden arches
And what do I see!

The arches of hope
Converging on your form,
With shell, fan and all,
In God's throne seated!

Reassured am I,
Divine Enchanter,
I will reach you one day
And be nothing in you.
