Sri Yogi Ramsuratkumar of Tiruvannamalai
Hon. Justice P. RAMAKRISHNAN
Yogi Sri Ramsuratkumar, following the traditions
set by the ancient Saints of India, exemplifies in his way of
life and teachings, certain essential truths of the Hindu approach
to religion and philosophy.
Learning and Faith -
Profound knowledge of the Scriptural texts, is not an essential
requisite for a seeker of spiritual progress or achievement.
The Gita has repeatedly mentioned this.
"To the Brahmana who has known the Self, all the Vedas are
of as much use as a reservoir is when there is flood everywhere"
(Gita Il. V. 46)
"By faith and devotion he knows Me in reality, what and
who I am; then having known Me in reality, he forthwith enters
into Me". (Gita XVIII V. 55)
Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, though he had no formal education,
revealed in his teachings that there was no bar to his comprehension
of the most profound principles of Hinduism whether enshrined
in the Vedas or the Puranas, or taught in the different philosophies
of Sankara, Ramanuja, Madhwa or Chaitanya. The impression one
receives during the talks of Sri Yogi Ramsuratkumar is similar,
namely, that true devotion Io one's chosen Deity, or Ishta Devata,
is the key that opens the door to inner Knowledge, which all
the sacred texts put together, cannot supply.
Prema - Bhakthi
The Puranas - in particular Sri Bhagavatam - extols Bhakti or
Love towards the Lord, as the simplest and easiest discipline
for Spiritual Sadhana.
Love can be of different forms, of the wife
for the husband, a woman for her secret lover, mother for her
child, the child for the mother, or father, Master and servant.
Hanuman's attitude to Sri Rama was that of a totally devoted
servant to his master, placing every action and its fruits at
the feet of his master. Yogi Ramsuratkumar regards Sri Rama as
Father and his devotion as that of a true son to his father.
When the devotee seeks his help, in any way, all that he would
say is that he would pray to his Father, and the Father - who
is the father of all the worlds, of all creation movable and
immovable, as Arjuna addressed Him in his prayer in the Viswa-rupa
Chapter of the Gita - will respond to the prayer, if it is His
will, and do whatever is needed.
Efficacy of Dhyan and Narna Japa, for spiritual Progress:
The religions teachers have given the highest value to Nama Japa,
the repetition of the holy Name with the tongue in the early
stage, but progressively in the mind. This gradually leads to
concentration of the mind which also gets pure in the process.
The devout Hindu who recites the thousand names of the Lord in
the Vishnu Sahasra nama, recites also the advice given at the
conclusion, given by Lord Siva to His consort Parvathi, that
the recital of Sri Rama's Name three times equals the recital
of the thousand names of Lord Vishnu. Yogi Ramsuratkumar teaches
the great efficacy of the name of Sri Rama for constant Japa
and meditation. This is in the direct tradition set down by a
long lineage of Hindu Saints Tulsidas, Kabir, Samartha Ramadas
of Maharashtra, the Guru of Sivaji, Ramadas of Bhadrachalam of
Andhra, Thyagaraja of Tiruvayyar and Ramadas of Kanhangad.
May He live long to continually give spiritual
ministration to devoul seekers ! |
