Un soir vers 5 heures, Bhagavan était assis devant le samadhi de Sri Kalyana Sundareshvar (dans le temple de Tiruvannamalai). Une femme âgée qui portrait un petit paquet en tissu et un paquet de brindilles sur la tête passa par là, se tint en face de Swamiji et le fixa comme si elle était folle. Elle soutenait d'une main le poids qu'elle avait sur la tête.

Swami dit à la femme d'enlever les paquets de sa tête et de les mettre sur la sienne. La vieille femme rit. On pouvait dire que le rire avait quelque signification. Swamiji lui dit encore d'enlever le poids de sa tête et de le mettre sur la sienne. La vieille femme continua de fixer Swamiji sans donner de réponse. Le dévot qui se trouvait avec Swamiji avait peur que la femme enlève les paquets et les mette sur la tête de Swamiji !

Swamiji demanda à la femme : "Que portez-vous sur votre tête ? Où allez-vous ?" La femme dit : "J'ai du riz avec moi; je vais le cuire et le manger. Bhagavan bénit la vieille femme et lui donna congé.

Swamiji dit au dévot qui était près de lui : "Cette vieille femme a marché par ici avec le même fardeau sur la tête. Je ne l'ai vu mendier nulle part pour quoi que ce soit. Comment et que mange-t-elle ?" se demanda-t-il et il la bénit affectueusement.

Swamiji s'enquit sur elle ce jour-là mais le dévot qui était avec Lui comprit qu'elle était l'heureuse bénéficiaire des bénédictions de Bhagavan.

Effet Multiplicateur

On était en train de faire des réparations dans la demeure de Swamiji à Sannadhi street. Un jour, à la fin du travail de la matinée les travailleurs et les travailleuses s'en allèrent pour manger. Deux des travailleuses restèrent en arrière et demandèrent au dévot si elles pouvaient s'asseoir devant la véranda et y avoir leur repas qu'elles avaient apporté avec elles. Swamiji demanda au dévot de lui rapporter leur demande. Après avoir été informé, Swamiji dit : "Oui, elles peuvent prendre leur repas, emmenez-les s'il vous paît à l'arrière du bâtiment, donnez-leur de l'eau à boire et mettez-les à l'aise", Swamiji dit au dévot. Les femmes allèrent à l'arrière et se préparèrent à manger.

Swamiji s'y rendit et leur demanda ce qu'elles avaient l'intention de manger. La femme qui mélangeait du gruau dit :" Nous allons voir du gruau." Swamiji regarda l'autre femme et lui demanda ce qu'elle avait apporté; elles dirent qu'une seule d'entre elles avait apporté du gruau et qu'elles allaient le partager toutes les deux. Swamiji regarda le gruau et la femme dit : "Voulez-vous en avoir, Swamiji ?" Swamiji dit qu'elles pouvaient en donner et il tendit sa coque de noix de coco dans laquelle un peu de gruau fut vers et qu'Il but. Il demanda au dévot qui était avec Lui s'il voulait aussi en avoir un peu. Quand le dévot accepta Swamiji apporta un gobelet de l'intérieur de la maison et demanda à la femme d'y verser un peu de gruau. Cela arriva deux fois. Les deux femmes burent le reste du gruau.

Swamiji dit : "Il n'y avait du gruau que pour une personne et nous en avons pris aussi." Il demanda au dévot d'apporter 20 Rs de l'intérieur et il les donna aux femmes. Il dit : "Allez toutes les deux dans un restaurant et prenez chacune un repas complet." Elles protestèrent mis en vain. Swamiji insista pour qu'elles aient un repas complet et elles sortirent donc, eurent leur repas, revinrent et rendirent le solde de 3 Rs.

Swamiji posa des questions sur la situation de leurs familles et les bénit. Cet épisode inattendu remplit le dévot de bonheur.

L'évènement montre que ceux qui aiment Bhagavan obtiennent de multiples bénédictions divines.

Le perroquet et le fruit de coton

Swamijji était un jour assis sur les marches du Brahma Tirtha, le bassin du temple. Des dévots se trouvaient avec lui. Bhagavan montra un grand arbre juste de l'autre côté du mur du temple et il demanda à ceux qui étaient là : "Savez-vous quel est cet arbre ?" Il fournit Lui-même la réponse : "C'est un fromager" (1) Il chanta un doha de Kabirdas de sa belle voix claire.

Swamiji expliqua le sens de la chanson : "a fleur de cet arbre est belle; il y a un fruit, gros et vert. Le perroquet, en le voyant, pense que lorsque le fruit sera mûr il pourra le manger et il attend. Mais le fruit s'assèche, éclate, et le vent répand le 'soie-coton' dans toutes les directions. Le perroquet déçu s'envole pour goûter un autre "fruit". Swamiji dit : "Les gens matérialistes désirent aussi des choses matérielles, et lorsqu'ils ne les obtiennent pas, les personnes déçues se tournent vers Dieu."

La grande vérité expliquée par Swamiji pénétra au fond du coeur des dévots qui étaient là et leur fit comprendre qu'ils devaient tourner leur mental vers Dieu dès le début et ne pas désirer de choses matérielles.

One evening around 5 pm Bhagavan was seated before the samadhi of Sri Kalyana Sundareshvar (in Tiruvannamalai Temple). An aged woman carrying a small cloth bundle and a bundle of twigs on her head came that way, stood in front of Swamiji and stared at Him as though crazed. She supported the eight on her head with one hand.

Swami told the woman to remove the bundles from her head and place the on his head. The old woman laughed. It could be said that the laughter had some meaning. Swamiji again said that the weight be removed and placed on his head. The old woman continued to stare at Swamiji without giving any answer. The devotee with the Swamiji was afraid that the woman might remove the bundles and place them on Swamiji's head!

Swamiji asked the woman, "What are you carrying on your head? Where are you going?" The woman said; "I have some rice with me; I am going to cook it and eat it." Bhagavan blessed and gave leave to the old woman.

Swamiji said o the devotee near Him, "This old woman has been walking this ay with the same load on her head. I have not seen her begging for anything anywhere. How and what does she eat?" he wondered and lovingly blessed her.

Swamiji made enquiries bout her on that day, but the devotee with Him understood that she is the fortunate recipient of Bhagavan's blessings.

Multiplier Effect

Repairs were being carried out in Swamiji's Sannadhi street Abode. One day at the end of the morning's work the men and women workers left for lunch. Two of the women workers stayed back and asked the devotee whether they could sit at the front veranda and have their lunch which they had brought with them. Swamiji asked the devotee to convey their request. On being informed of it, Swamiji said, "yes, they ca have their lunch, please take them to the rear of the building, give them drinking water and make them comfortable", Swamiji told the devotee. The women went to the rear and made preparation to eat.

Swamiji came there and asked them what they proposed to eat. The woman mixing gruel said, "we are going to have gruel." Swamiji looked at the other woman and asked her what she had brought; they said that only one of them had brought gruel which both would share. Swamiji looked at the gruel and the woman said, "will you have some Swamiji." Swamiji said they may give and extended his coconut shell into which some gruel was poured, which He drank. He asked the devotee with Him (the author) whether he would also like to have some. When the devotee agreed Swamiji fetched a tumbler from inside and asked the woman to pour some gruel into that. This happened twice. The two women drank the rest of the gruel.

Swamiji said, "there was gruel sufficient only for one person out of which we had also consumed some." He directed the devotee to fetch Rs. 20 from inside and give it to the women. He said, "Both of you go to a restaurant and have a full meal each." They protested but to no avail. Swamiji insisted that they have a whole lunch and so they went out, had their food, came back and handed back the balance amount of Rs. 3.

Swamiji enquired about their family circumstances and blessed them. This unexpected episode filled the devotee with delight.

The incident shows that those who love Bhagavan are getting multiple divine blessings.

The parrot and the cotton fruit

One day Swamiji was sitting on the steps of the Brahma Tirtha, the temple tank. Some devotees were with Him. Bhagavan showed a large tree just outside the temple wall and asked those present, "Do you know what this tree is?" He Himself supplied the answer, "It is a Silk cotton tree." He sang a doha of Kabirdas in his clear and beautiful voice.

Swamiji explained the meaning of the song, "The flower of this tree is beautiful, there is a fruit, big and green. The parrot, seeing it thinks that when the fruit ripens it can be eaten and keeps on waiting. But the fruit dries up, bursts and the silk cotton is strewn in all directions by the wind. The disappointed parrot flies off to taste other "fruit". Swamiji said, "worldly people also desire material things and when they don't get them, the disappointed persons turn to God."

The great truth expounded by Swamiji penetrated deep into the hearts of the devotees there and made them understand that they should turn their mind towards God from the beginning and not desire material things.
