Comment elle est entrée dans son bercail

How she came into His fold

Sri Ravi

Smt.

St. Aishwarya Kumaravel is an ardent devotee of Bhagavan. She and her husband Kumaravel have established "Bhajanashram" at Sivakasi with serves as a centre for worship of Bhagavan and provides an opportunity for devotee to come together to chant His name. In the years since Bhajanashram was started the couple's sincere and enthusiastic service has attracted devotees from every place and the monthly satsangs are well attended.

Aishwarya was unaware of such things as guru as the mentor of spirituality. Her grand father was doing a daily parayana of Ramayan and therefore she had some knowledge of religion. When she was in the high school, she used to go to the nearby home of Smt. Damayanthi Rajamanikkam, who could encourage her homework and do it there. She saw photographs of the "smoking swami" and asked her hostess to explain. Smt. Damayanthi would wax eloquent on the greatness of Bhagavan. Another neighbour Smt. Lila Pushpavanamm, also an ardent devotee of Bhagavan, would join them many times. But all this did not impress her much and she would even tease Smt. Lila Pushpavanam about it. Smt. Lila would say, "You are making fun of me. You just wait and see. You are going to be married in a family who would worship Bhagavan as God!"

So that was what happened. Here was a marriage arranged by the parents, with Kumaravel absent even on the day the girl is "seen" by the bridegroom and his parents. The benign dominance of Kumaravel's father, Dr. Rajasekaran, was so effective that they accepted his decision without question. Dr. Rajasekaran decided that Aishwarya would be Kumaravel's wife. Aishwarya did marry into a family who worships Yogi Ramsuratkumar as God.

All this meant nothing to her till she was taken to Tiruvannamalai by her husband and in-laws. Standing outside the door she glanced into the house and there was the "smoking Swami"!

They were all called in and Aishwarya was asked to sit next to Yogi Ramsuratkumar. He picked up a cigarette and lighted it. Aishwarya was sensitive to cigarette smoke so much that she would feel like throwing up in the vicinity of smokers.

But here she was sitting right next to the smoking Swami and nothing happened. Slowly she was getting drawn to Him, without her being consciously aware of it. Slowly there were unexpected inexplicable events which could only have been initiated by a wonderful benign aster. She found herself serving Bhagavan with dedication.

Aishawarya found that the life of her family was being guided by Yogi Ramsuratkumar and all major decisions were referred to Him as a matter of course and the family abided by His gentle guidance.

One of the more explicit and visible miracles happened this way. Sixty children of Bhajanashram were being taken to a temple by a bus. The driver was new and nervous. As he reversed he rammed the bus in to an electricity pole, breaking it. The high tension wires were severed and a blazing fire started. The driver meanwhile took the bus forward.

There were screams of "Yogi Ramsuratumar" "Guruji" filling the bus. But for all the commotion, the children were not injured, not even a scratch. They did not even fall off their seats! There was no damage to the bus either, not even a shattering of glass! Aishwarya realised what a powerful protection was enjoyed by Bhajanashram.

Kumaravel had to undergo cardiac surgery on account of arterial blocks. He was being wheeled into the operation theatre; he slipped his japamala into Aishwarya's hands. Aishwarya was not used to japa on the Japamala. The seriousness of the situation, her concern for her husband made her concentrate on the japa. Continuously she recited the nama. Every now and then she would be overwhelmed by worry and her glance would involuntarily go to the T.V. screen where a cricket game was being screened. She had no interest in the game, was not watching it.

She thought how wonderful it would be if Bhagavan were to send some positive sign - "it will mitigate my worry. He would usually send a butterfly. His emissary; but how can a butterfly come into the sealed air-conditioned hospital premises?" Thus ran her anxious thoughts.

Her eye fell on the TV screen again and there it was, the butterfly. Parking itself on the palm of a young girl, the camera lingered to display the wonder. Not once but to or three times.

Aishwarya shed tears of joy and disbelief as her gratitude to Bhagavan overwhelmed her heart. Needless to say, the surgery was successful and Kumaravel was back to wok with renewed vigour in a few weeks.

Bhagavan is the basis and sustenance of her life; she is secure in her love for Him and sure of His love for her.
